Mary Meyer
Mary studied design in New York City as a young woman. At the age of 25, she married Hans Meyer who was a salesman. At the age of 29, in 1933, Hans and Mary began to design, manufacture, and sell tomato and animal pin cushions and dolls. While Hans was out selling their products, Mary was designing new stuffed animals well beyond the popular teddy bear. In 1940, Mary & Hans moved the company to Vermont. In 1950, Mary & Han's son Walter joined the company. In 1965, Hans Meyer passed away. In 1982, Walter's son, Kevin joined the company and eventually became president of the company in 1986. In the late 1980's, Walter's other three sons joined the family business. Mary retired in 1982 at the age of 78. Even though she retired, Mary was still very active in the company, signing autographs for collector Mary Meyer toys and visiting in the company factory store. Mary died in 1999 at the age of 94.
