Wild Republic California Gull Audubon Bird with Real Calls Great news for all bird enthusiasts! Wild Republic has entered into a partnership with the National Audubon Society to create a line of realistic looking plush beanbag state birds. This partnership also includes The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, who has provided the authentic sounds for each bird to further add to the realism of these plush toys.
This California Gull's call was recorded May 28, 1961 in Mono Lake, California, USA, and was a call used for food finds and group communication.
Grateful Utah residents chose this state bird because they saved the Mormons' crops from locusts in 1848. Without the large flocks of gulls to feed on the swarming insects, the settlers would have suffered starvation. California Gulls also feed on rodents, eggs, fish, and garbage. They usually nest near freshwater lakes or marshes.
