The Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) is actually a giant kingfisher, and the largest in its family. It is found in open areas of Australia including parks and gardens, and has a distinctive, laughing call. It has short legs and a strong bill. Kookaburras hunt snakes and lizards. Baby kookaburras eat huge amounts of insects, which are delivered by parents and older brothers and sisters.
