This is one of Lomonosov Porcelain's most ornately painted cats, showing a tranquil, but also non-domesticated cat, with a beautiful coat and big bushy tail. This unusual, sleepy-looking wildcat figurine, handpainted in Russia, makes a wonderful gift for cat lovers, Lomonosov collectors, or anyone who loves wild animals.
The Lomonosov Porcelain factory was founded in 1744 and produced works for the tsar. In 1925, the factory was renamed for the acclaimed 18th century scholar Mikhail Lomonosov, founder of Moscow State University.
The Lomonosov animal designs have been developed over the years by artists from the St. Petersburg Academy of Art. Each piece is shaped in a mold, fired in a kiln, and then hand-painted.
