About the Coquerel's Sifaka
These lemurs are leaf eaters from the dry forests of Madagascar. Their mode of locomotion is different from that of other lemurs: The Coquerel's Sifaka stands erect and leaps from tree to tree using its powerful back legs. They are able to leap as far as 20 feet and even hop on two legs when on the ground. Their main diet is leaves, but they also eat a variety of flowers, fruit, and bark. The name "Sifaka" comes from the distinct call they make as they travel through the trees.
