About the Hyacinth Macaw
The huge, deep-blue hyacinth macaw is one of the world's most spectacular parrots and is the largest species of macaw. Males may reach 40 inches in length and weigh up to 4 pounds; females are typically smaller. The massive beak is useful for splitting open palm nuts. These rare macaws are generally seen in pairs or small groups, and they may forage for food on the ground in cattle pastures.
