Basa, the Baby Sailor Bear, is based on an adorable original early 20th century teddy bear. In 1908, Steiff introduced a collection of dressed teddies, including bears in dresses, suits, sweaters, and sailor outfits. Steiff frequently used this grouping of bears on advertising materials, as their appeal was so universal. Basa was part of the dressed bear series -- and he has not lost any of his charm in nearly 100 years! This seaworthy sweetheart comes complete with period nautical garb, including navy wool pants and jumper and a matching cap. Basa is made with antiqued white mohair and is five-way jointed.

This Steiff animal is hand made in Germany and carries the signature "Button in Ear" trademark and chest tag. Basa is packaged in a beautifully embroidered black drawstring bag to commemorate this Steiff North American Exclusive teddy bear. For children 6 and over -- contains small detachable parts.
