Great news for all bird enthusiasts! Wild Republic has entered into a partnership with the National Audubon Society to create a line of realistic-looking plush beanbag birds. This partnership also includes the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, which has provided the authentic sounds for each bird to further add to the realism of these plush toys.
Each bird's lifelike design and impeccable detailing are the result of input from Audubon, where each bird is painstakingly examined for the maximum level of perfection in a five-inch plush toy. The authentic bird songs in the plush toy provided by Cornell represent hours, months, even years of in-the-field work conducted by expert recordists. This female Northern Cardinal's call was recorded March 17, 1991, in New York, USA, and was a female song to defend territory, bond with a mate, and solicit food from a mate.
The unmistakable crested head and orange-red bill of the Northern Cardinal is a common sight east of the Rockies. The contrasting muted tones of the female cardinal serve as camouflage while tending to eggs on a nest, which is normally situated in a dense shrub. The male brings the female food during incubation, and both parents care for the nestlings. Cardinals are easily attracted to feeders and favor black-oil sunflower and safflower seeds.
The cardinal is the state bird of seven states: North Carolina, Indiana, Virginia, Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky.
