Meet Janardan. His name, pronounced jahn-ar-dahn, means "one who helps others" in India. What an appropriate name. While the other macaques ferociously defend their turf and hoard their food, Janardan shares his fruit with others. The other macaques think he is a fool and should fight to keep his food. Janardan just smiles and says, "Harmony grows if nourished."

Janardan is a bonnet macaque. Macaques are known for their aggressive behavior, and their helmet-like hair that makes them look like warriors. Bonnet macaques live from South India to Sri Lanka. Their habitat is shrinking, so they compete for food. In Sasthamcotta, India, macaques have taken over an ancient temple – half inside, half outside. At first, when the townspeople brought food, the two groups of macaques fought over it. Now, the groups have learned to share, just like Janardan.
